Powered by the Sun

If you didn’t hear about the recent unveiling of our sustainable torch for the 2009 National Senior Games, then you’ll definitely want to check out all the cool details at Palo Alto Online or the Environmental News Network.

Lovingly designed by the Palo Alto-based design firm IDEO, the torch will rely on solar power instead of fossil fuels in keeping with the overall “green” theme of our Games. As far as we can tell, this is the first of its kind in the sporting world. We’re awfully proud of it. So plan to visit this remarkable torch and cauldron when you’re in Palo Alto … and don’t forget to bring your camera!

Parade Magazine mentions the National Senior Games

It was fun to see a mention of the National Senior Games in a recent Parade magazine article. Jane McIntyre, a swimmer in the Games from Eden, N.C., asked whether former MGM star Esther Williams still swims. According to Parade, Williams, 84, said, “Swimming is the only sport in which you are ageless and weightless.” We agree with you, Esther!

Parade is a general interest magazine distributed to more than 32 million readers through more than 470 newspapers nationwide.
